Senna pods have been used traditionally as a laxative for centuries. The German Pharmacopoeia recommends senna pods against general and acute constipation. This can be particularly valuable in situations where hard stools may cause damage, as with hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Senna pods are milder in their effects than the leaflets.

Colour : Brownish yellow at the edges, dark brown in the central area.
Length : 35 mm to 60 mm
Width : 14 to 18 mm
Effectiveness :
They are milder in their effects than the leaflets, as the griping is largely due to the resin and the pods contain none, but have about 25% more cathartic acid and emodin than the leaves, without volatile oil.
