History of senna
Arabians were the first to use Senna as medicine and presently it is used in Allopathic, Ayurvedic and Unani system of medicines. Species reportedly introduced first in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu during the mid eighteenth century from European countries and hence the Indian produce as a whole is referred as Tinnevelly Senna.
Now, it is grown in several places in Gujarat Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, In Gujarat it is grown in Kutch district and Bhachau is the main market for senna in Gujarat the season of the Senna leaves grown in Gujarat and Rajasthan differs from Tamil Nadu crop.
